PATIENT CARE AND STAFF
ENHAPA OMFS Team visits Ethiopia once
per year with a primary mission to treat adults and children with facial clefts,
maxillofacial and anatomical temporomandibular joint abnormalities. The team is
usually constituted of craniofacial, ENT, and plastic surgeons and
anesthesiologists.
The Ethiopian institutions provide
operating rooms on a full time basis for the visiting team along with nurses,
anesthesiologists and other supporting staff. The OMFS team provides supplies
and all specialized and non-specialized surgical equipment needed for surgical
procedures that they will perform. Doctors in Ethiopia screen and prepare
patients for surgery.
EXPENSES AND REGULATORY AFFAIRS
Surgeons from the U.S.A. provide
authorities in Ethiopia with documentation of qualification, and licensing.
Residents from US accompany the OMFS team to work under direct supervision of an
attending surgeon.
The visiting team covers the cost of
traveling to Ethiopia along with meals and other personal expenses while in
Ethiopia. It will be the responsibility of each individual to have the required
travel documents such as passports and entry visa. Hospital authorities in
Ethiopia will assist the visiting team to satisfy Customs regulations in
Ethiopia.
EDUCATION
Visiting doctors provide seminars and
lectures to medical students and local practitioners. Local surgeons, residents
and medical students involved in treatment of all cases. This will include case
presentation, planning, O.R. procedure and post-op care.
You can contribute through your financial donation for patients in
Ethiopia who must travel from rural parts and to cover the nominal fees of their
care at the public hospitals.
Your contribution of educational materials and your expertise in public
health education, operating theatre support, surgical skills, anesthesiology
will be much valued.
