Orphan Support Program
Orphan Support
ENAHPA: Our Goal, Our Partner
The AIDS
epidemic in Ethiopia has caused an unprecedented tragedy among
families and communities. An estimated one million children are
orphaned, and the the traditional social support fabric is stretched
to its limit. Poverty and the social stigma attached to HIV have left
these children alone and homeless.
To mitigate the unimaginable suffering the children endure everyday,
ENAHPA has begun an exciting and wonderfully rewarding orphan
sponsorship program that will provide them with food, clothing,
shelter and educational assistance for a mere $20-$30 per month.
ENAHPA's key partner in this endeavor is the HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care
and Support Organization
(HAPCSO), located
in Addis Ababa’s Kolfe Keraniyo community, an area where up to 90% of
families earn less than $9.40 monthly.
The immediate needs of Ethiopian orphans are great, however,
through this initiative you can save and change a child's life
forever. For more information on how to sponsor a child, make a
donation or volunteer, please contact Michael Ellison at
mailto:mikellis@mike-e.org
ENAHPA kicked-off this undertaking in 2005 with twenty-one "Friends of
Ethiopia” agreeing to sponsor children at $30 per month, annually.
Additionally, students from Detroit, Michigan’s Northern High School
initiated a youth-driven fundraising campaign, collecting $2,000 in
just four-weeks to support their extended Ethiopian family. The
program expanded to include nearly 20 additional high schools that
participate in Detroit’s Citywide Student Council. The Student Council
leadership is currently working to raise $15,000 prior to ENAHPA’s 3rd
Annual Medical/Surgical Mission in Ethiopia, May 21- June 5. It is
truly inspiring to see children helping children.
